At the mention of Connor’s name, Cece glanced over to Trinity, making sure she was okay. It alluded to their earlier conversation but it was good that there was no awkward tension. When she coughed, Cece patted her back softly.
“…I guess that isn’t happening any more.” Cecelia matched her smile, trying to make sure Trinity knew she was there for comfort.
“What about you?”
“Well,” Cecelia began, smiling, “I’m spending some time in New York and then hopping off for a month in France. It’s just something my parents do to make sure I don’t throw a fit. It’s usually just me since my siblings have better things to do.” she cringed at the angry tone her voice took whenever she talked about her brother and sister. Her brother had been friends with her ex boyfriend, planning on taking him into the business, and eventually did, disregarding what he did to his sister. And her sister told her she should’ve been ‘more careful’.
Arriving at the diner, Cecelia opened the door. “After you,”
“Well, I’m spending some time in New York and then hopping off for a month in France. It’s just something my parents do to make sure I don’t throw a fit. It’s usually just me since my siblings have better things to do.”
Trinity nodded, noticing the change of tone in Cece’s voice, but not bringing it up.
The girl smiled as Cece opened the door for her. She’d never even wondered about this side of her before, the seemingly calm, sensitive side. She wasn’t even sure such a nice side of the usually bitchy girl could exist.
She lead the two of them over to the counter and ordered herself a burger and fries. Smiling over at Cece, she asked. “Do you want anything? I’ll pay.”
Why hello there.

And who might you be?
Head up, stay strong. Fake a smile, move on.
Cecelia crept out of her room and knocked on Trinity’s door. Most of the students were eating dinner or sitting in their rooms. She had nothing to worry about. Ariana was sleeping, the others agonizing whoever was eating in the cafeteria. The door opened and Cece flashed her a very ‘Cece’ smile. The one she used for backhanded compliments.
She held her tongue, noting the obvious raw red of Trinity’s face. Cece hoped she hadn’t cried again. They walked out of the school, which was pretty lenient on the students’ access to the town.
“So,” she began, acting like their conversation never happened, “What have you been up to lately?”
It was almost comical, how casual her question sounded. Here they were, strolling in town, heading for the diner with a girl she had only spat insults at only moments after confessing their darkest secrets.
Eating. They would have to eat together. At that point, she looked down and bit her lip. She had numerous problems. Should she tell another?
Trinity opened the door and noticed Cece’s personal smile, and couldn’t help but smile back. Yep. Cece’s back all right.
She noticed the girl’s gaze drop down from her eyes to the rest of her skin and swallowed nervously. Was her face really that red? She’d gotten comments before, from when she had taken boiling showers, about how red raw her skin looked, but she’d always brushed it off, saying that people must be imagining things. Sometimes, when she could bare to look at herself in the mirror after one of the showers, she would put on concealing make-up. But she hadn’t had time today.
Without either of them saying a word, they both headed out from the school, Trinity still feeling concious of her skin. Eventually, Cece spoke up.
“So. What have you been up to lately?”
Trinity was thankful she hadn’t brought up anything to do with their previous conversation. It just would have made things more awkward between them.
“Not a lot.” Trinity winced as she realized how strained her voice sounded, probably from screaming out and sobbing for half an hour in a shower. “You?”
When Cece didn’t respond right away, Trinity looked over at the girl. She seemed uncomfortable about something. “Cece?”
Snapping back to the present, Cecelia looked over at her. She quickly put on a Hollywood worthy smile. “Well, just worrying about college but that’s about it. Thinking of what to major in.” That part was true, everyone had expected her to not even go to college. How little they knew. Cecelia was just deciding between an English or a Fashion major. Or both. Her parents didn’t care as long as she didn’t have anymore psycho boyfriends.
She knew Trinity sensed something wrong but Cece couldn’t help but put up a front. Sure, she shared the boyfriend incident. But that was over, it had passed. What about her…current problem?
Knowing she couldn’t dwell on that if she wanted to have dinner, Cecelia then asked, “Anything planned for the summer? I mean, it is almost your senior year.”
The diner was off in the distance and they were walking a good pace. The conversation wasn’t heavy, it was…friendly.
“Well, just worrying about college but that’s about it. Thinking of what to major in.” Trinity nodded, not utterly convinced, but deciding not to push the subject for Cece’s sake. The thought of Cece actually going off to college wasn’t really that surprising for her - she could tell that the girl was truly intelligent behind that sarcastic, bitchy persona. Trinity just had a knack of working people out like that.
“Anything planned for the summer? I mean, it is almost your senior year.”
Trinity shrugged. “Well, I was going to go somewhere with Connor, but…” She trailed off upon hearing his name out loud. Connor. She still had no idea where he’d gone, or why he hadn’t bothered to respond to her fifty-something voicemails and God knows how many texts. Had she really meant that little to him?
Coughing, Trinity snapped herself back into the present. She shrugged. “…I guess that isn’t happening any more.” She said with a bitter smile.
She turned back to Cece as they headed down the road of the diner. “What about you?”
Hello there!
Miss Black, how are you!
I’m…fine. And you, Miss Norton?
Are you alright Trinity? I’ve been good, grading your classmates papers, it seems a majority of the Ashton does not have the aptitude for Chemistry.
Yeah, I’m fine.
Ahah, I think I’m among them. Chemistry was never really my thing.
Don’t worry about it, you’re a smart girl. What do you like here at Ashton?
Well, I’m pretty into the performing arts. Acting, singing, dancing, that stuff.
Ah, yes I’ve heard about your talents. You’re quite good from what I hear in the faculty room. Planning to go into the business?
I’m not too sure yet. But probably, yes, considering I’m not good at a lot else.
I doubt that dear, I’m sure you have many more talents you haven’t yet discovered. What type of music do you sing?
Any, really. I’m sort of a fan of all genres.
